Finding my Happy Place in The Cold

I always thought I was a truly happy person until I found this quote. I guess I should enjoy the scenery of this bitter cold winter season, but for some reason I just can't. I find myself counting the days until Spring. I miss the warm weather so much.....It doesn't seem to matter what activity I'm involved in, ie skiing, snow mobiling, sledding etc I still can't seem to find my happy place in the cold.

I think the expression on my face says it all...

I remember the year we bought everyone new skis for Christmas, we went to Sundance to spend Christmas day on the slopes. I skied for a short time and spent the rest of my day inside the Sundance Lodge sipping hot chocolate and wishing for warmer days, while the rest of the family enjoyed the day on the slopes... I have only been back a few times since then.

This is fun, but it's just too darn cold. I'm freezing!!!

I'm always wanting this. After a great day on the lake with the family. driving around town with the top down. Can't do that in the cold....

There is one consolation----summer is always just around the corner

Flashback Friday

Yes we were young and life seemed so simple. I know it's hard to believe but all 4 of our children joined our family in the first five years of our marriage, they were all born before college graduation. Yes that's right 1 at Snow and 3 at BYU. Jay used to take Jackson and Jayson with him on treatment days and let them swim in the whirl pools with the team. We loved starting out with our little family at BYU/Wymount Terrace. This is where we really became an "us". Good Times, Great Memories.

An Evening at The Govenor's Mansion

It was a beautiful evening at the Utah Governor's mansion. I had forgotten how beautiful the mansion was until last night. The detail and craftsmanship in that old building is amazing. Last night was the holiday open house at the mansion it looked fantastic all decked out for the holidays. Jeanette picked the theme this year "Home For The Holidays" Great theme for such a family oriented First Lady. Utah is very fortunate to have the Herbert's.....It was a beautiful night with great friends.

I'm Finally Back!

It's been about two years since I have seen my true hair color, but it's back. I never set out to be a blonde; it just kept on creeping up on me one hair salon visit at a time. It all started one day when I decided to add some high-lights and it just snowballed from there little by little until there was no sign of my true color. I liked it, in fact I liked it a lot, ( I think blondes really do have more fun) but it wasn't until I went back to my dark hair that Jay told me he really didn't prefer the blonde AT ALL!

Thinking about selling your house - A look at H.R. 2454 (Cap and trade bill) This is unbelievable!

Only the beginning from this administration! Home owners take note & tell your friends and relatives who are home owners!
Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Cap and Trade Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. H.R. 2454, the "Cap & Trade" bill passed by the House of Representatives, if also passed by the Senate, will be the largest tax increase any of us has ever experienced. The Congressional Budget Office (supposedly non-partisan) estimates that in just a few years the average cost to every family of four will be $6,800 per year. No one is excluded. However, once the lower classes feel the pinch in their wallets, you can be sure these voters get a tax refund (even if they pay no taxes at all) to offset this new cost. Thus, you Mr. and Mrs. Middle Class America will have to pay even more since additional tax dollars will be needed to bail out everyone else. But wait. This awful bill (that no one in Congress has actually read) has many more surprises in it. Probably the worst one is this: A year from now you won't be able to sell your house. Yes, you read that right. The caveat is (there always is a caveat) that if you have enough money to make required major upgrades to your home, then you can sell it. But, if not, then forget it. Even pre-fabricated homes ("mobile homes") are included. In effect, this bill prevents you from selling your home without the permission of the EPA administrator. To get this permission, you will have to have the energy efficiency of your home measured. Then the government will tell you what your new energy efficiency requirement is and you will be forced to make modifications to your home under the retrofit provisions of this Act to comply with the new energy and water efficiency requirements. Then you will have to get your home measured again and get a license (called a "label" in the Act) that must be posted on your property to show what your efficiency rating is; sort of like the Energy Star efficiency rating label on your refrigerator or air conditioner. If you don't get a high enough rating, you can't sell. And, the EPA administrator is authorized to raise the standards every year, even above the automatic energy efficiency increases built into the Act. The EPA administrator, appointed by the President, will run the Cap & Trade program (AKA the "American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009") and is authorized to make any future changes to the regulations and standards he alone determines to be in the government's best interest. Requirements are set low initially so the bill will pass Congress; then the Administrator can set much tougher new standards every year. The Act itself contains annual required increases in energy efficiency for private and commercial residences and buildings. However, the EPA administrator can set higher standards at any time. Sect. 202 Building Retrofit Program mandates a national retrofit program to increase the energy efficiency of all existing homes across America. Beginning 1 year after enactment of the Act, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this Act. You had better sell soon, because the standards will be raised each year and will be really hard (i.e., expensive) to meet in a few years. Oh, goody! The Act allows the government to give you a grant of several thousand dollars to comply with the retrofit program requirements IF you meet certain energy efficiency levels. But, wait, the State can set additional requirements on who qualifies to receive the grants. You should expect requirements such as "can't have an income of more than $50K per year", "home selling price can't be more than $125K", or anything else to target the upper middle class (and that's YOU) and prevent them from qualifying for the grants. Most of us won't get a dime and will have to pay the entire cost of the retrofit out of our own pockets. More transfer of wealth, more "change you can believe in." Sect. 204 Building Energy Performance Labeling Program establishes a labeling program that for each individual residence will identify the achieved energy efficiency performance for "at least 90 percent of the residential market within 5 years after the date of the enactment of this Act." This means that within 5 years 90% of all residential homes in the U.S. must be measured and labeled. The EPA administrator will get $50M each year to enforce the labeling program. The Secretary of the Department of Energy will get an additional $20M each year to help enforce the labeling program. Some of this money will, of course, be spent on coming up with tougher standards each year. Oh, the label will be like a license for your car. You will be required to post the label in a conspicuous location in your home and will not be allowed to sell your home without having this label. And, just like your car license, you will probably be required to get a new label every so often - maybe every year. But, the government estimates the cost of measuring the energy efficiency of your home should only cost about $200 each time. Remember what they said about the auto smog inspections when they first started: that in California it would only cost $15. That was when the program started. Now the cost is about $50 for the inspection and certificate; a 333% increase. Expect the same from the home labeling program. Sect. 304 Greater Energy Efficiency in Building Codes establishes new energy efficiency guidelines for the National Building Code and mandates at 304(d) that 1 year after enactment of this Act, all state and local jurisdictions must adopt the National Building Code energy efficiency provisions or must obtain a certification from the federal government that their state and/or local codes have been brought into full compliance with the National Building Code energy efficiency standards.

Jordan has always been a little different and so have his friends. But they really knew how to have fun. (Sometimes too much fun) Jordan and Johnny Harline Rocking out.

Like I said just a little strange, but we love them all to death. Jordan and Shawn are still best friends today. We love Shawn almost as much as we love Jordan.

Jordan is the one who is pinning his opponent.

After being told by all of his Doctors he would never play football again, and after missing his Jr. year of athletics due to the severity of his injuries, he fought his way back onto the team and was voted team captain of the varsity football team his Sr. year. Jordan started on both sides of the ball and made the all-state team and was also given the most inspirational player award.

Reading his mission call. San Fernando California Mission. What a great day, but he looks like a 12 year old, Is he really old enough to serve a mission?

Yup, he is and what an amazing missionary he was. We received many phone calls from different Bishops in wards where Jordan was serving telling us what a remarkable missionary our son was. That felt pretty good.

Someone Needs a Manicure

The entire Congress of the United States is corrupt. And I mean both Houses and I mean both major parties.
I realize that a few Members of each House are trustworthy, but, as a group
they are absolutely the most corrupt bunch to ever disgrace our Nation.
In November of 2010 the entireHouse of Representatives will stand for re-election;

all 435 of them. One third of the Senate, a total of 33 of them, will also stand for re-election.

Vote every incumbent out.
And I mean every one of them. No matter their Party affiliation.

Let's start all over in the House of Representatives with 435 people who have absolutely no experience in running that body, with no political favors owed to anyone but their own constituents. Let's make them understand that they work for us.

They are answerable to us and they simply have to run that body with some common sense.
Two years later, in 2012, vote the next third of the incumbents in the Senate out.
We can do the same thing in 2014 and, by that time we will have put all new people in that body as well.
We, the People, have got to take this Country back and we HAVE to do it peacefully.
That's what the Framers of our Constitution envisioned.

I am also suggesting term limits on the

NEW BUNCH -- 8 YEARS FOR REPRESENTATIVES

Two terms that’s all.

AND

12 YEARS [2 terms] FOR SENATORS.

NO EXCEPTIONS. THE LONGER THEY STAY IN OFFICE THE MORE POWER THEY GET AND THEY LOVE IT AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET RE-ELECTED.

WE HAVE TERM LIMITED THE PRESIDENT –

NOW LETS TERM LIMIT THE LEGISLATORS. And we do away with their Special Retirement system and their health program (they should have same health programs everyone else in America does). When they are through serving their country they go back to being private citizens. They should view their service as a privilege; after all it was designed to be a part time job to represent the voice of the people, NOT the special interest groups and those who can do favors for them.

If they don’t like this proposal then don’t run for office…

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- BYU quarterback Max Hall was reprimanded by the Mountain West Conference Monday for his comments about the University of Utah following BYU's thrilling 26-23 victory in overtime.

The MWC issued a statement saying, Hall "has been issued a public reprimand for comments which disparaged and criticized another MWC member institution following the November 28, 2009 Utah at BYU football contest. The actions of Mr. Hall were in violation of MWC Sportsmanship Rule."

Monday brought new allegations of bad behavior following Saturday's Utah-BYU game. Photos have emerged of a scuffle, which appears to show the wife of University of Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham caught in the middle.

After Hall threw the game-winning touchdown to tight end Andrew George to beat Utah, he blasted the Utes in his post game comments.

"I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything," Hall said. "It felt really good to send those guys home."

Hall said he was still upset with the way his family was treated by Utes fans last year in Rices-Eccles Stadium.

"I think the whole university and their fans and the organization is classless," Hall said. "They threw beer on my family and stuff last year and did a whole bunch of nasty things. I don't respect them and they deserved to lose."

Sunday, Hall issued an apology, saying he got caught up in "the heat of the moment" and that his comments were directed at a group of Utah fans that harassed and "physically assaulted" his family members.

He said his comments were, "not intended to be directed at the entire organization and all of their fans and I apologize that it came out that way.

"I have the utmost respect for Kyle Whittingham, his coaching staff, and the Utah football players. I apologize to them and other members of the university for my comments."

This is just as I thought. A players family needing a police escort out of a game could make a lot of people feel animosity.

SALT LAKE CITY-- Quarterback Max Hall released a statement Sunday regarding heated comments he made after BYU's big win over rival Utah.

In the statement, Hall apologized for his remarks, saying he got caught up in "the heat of the moment."

Hall said the rivalry became personal at last year's game at Rice-Eccles Stadium when several Utah fans harassed his family members. He said the fans spit on them, dumped beer on them -- even physically assaulted them. Hall also said several fans made "vile" comments about his wife, his mother and his religion.

Hall said his family actually had to be escorted to their car by police after the game.

Hall said his comments were directed at those fans, and apologized for criticizing the University of Utah and its football team.

"It was not intended to be directed at the entire organization and all of their fans and I apologize that it came out that way," the statement reads. "I have the utmost respect for Kyle Whittingham, his coaching staff and the Utah football players. I apologize to them and other members of the university for my comments."

Hall also apologized to his team for taking away from their victory.

The controversy sparked during a post-game interview Saturday, when Hall blasted his rivals with some scathing comments.

"I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything," Hall said. "It felt really good to send those guys home."

In his statement, Hall said he hoped BYU and Utah fans would "take steps to prevent future incidents at the game."
