Can't Wait For More BYU Football...Football Thoughts, And More Football...

Asking the question of whether or not college athletes receive preferential treatment is a simple one to answer. YES.

Yes, college athletes receive preferential treatment from academics to parking.

Yes, college coaches and athletic departments and university boards are often willing to condone such favored treatment because of the multi-million dollar endorsement contracts, merchandising profits, television rights revenues, and a host of other lucrative benefits that accrue to a school with a winning football or basketball franchise.

The more successful and nationally recognized university sports teams are cash cows. Many College Athletes receive special consideration from housing and parking to academic performance and class scheduling. True, there are some schools with a high reputation for demanding a high level of academic performance in their athletes with high graduation rates to their credit, such as Brigham Young University , but even at schools like these athletes receive special consideration other students do not. Many people believe that, the process occurs because of a misplaced value system when it comes to reward.

I completely disagree. College athletes get what they get because they have something to offer that regular students do not, also much is demanded from them that is not expected from the average college student. The reality is that coaches retain their jobs by winning games.

I remember a conversation I had with a friend of mine. I was talking about how important it was for my son to receive a football scholarship rather than an academic one because it would pay for so much more, she did not understand why a full ride football scholarship would pay more and she made it known that she thought that was so out of line and un-fair for a college athlete to get more in a scholarship. I learned from that conversation that the average person does not understand what a college athlete must go through to maintain such a scholarship.

Spending the college days married to a college football player on a football scholarship, in a D1 program, I feel I understand what goes into such a program and I know what is expected of the athletes, and my opinion is.......They don’t get enough special treatment.

Looking Forward To The Up-Coming BYU Football Season

**

9/4/2010 - Washington (5-7)
9/18/2010 - At Florida State (6-6)
9/25/2010 - Nevada (8-5)
10/2/2010 - At Utah State (4-8)
UNLV (5-7)
San Diego State (4-8)
10/16/2010 At TCU (12-0)
Wyoming (7-6)
New Mexico (1-11)
10/11/2010 At Air Force (7-5)
11/13/2010 At Colorado State (3-9)
11/27/2010 At Utah (10-3)
BYU had a great season last year, finishing 11-2, with great victories over OKLAHOMA, UTAH, and OREGON STATE. But in their two losses, they got blown out at home by FLORIDA STATE and TCU. This next year they play both of these teams on the road. BYU has to replace seven starters on defense next year and they lose several key offensive starters, most notably Max Hall and Dennis Pitta. But with Riley Nelson and Jake Heaps (No. 1 QB recruit) waiting in the wings, BYU should be in good hands at the QB position. They also return four out of five offensive lineman, and both starting wideouts. However it is still unclear if Harvey Unga will be able to return since his honor code violation.
Eventually, BYU needs/wants to break though and make a BCS bowl.

We have the best seats (Thanks to J's Dad) We both feel like season tickets are a need not a want.
